Learn to Play!

At Mountain View Music, we have a fine crew of teachers to help you play your best.

Meet Our Instructors:

Shay pool

fiddle, clawhammer banjo, guitar

Multi instrumental teacher and store everythinger.  Shay was born to teach.  As a public school teacher in the 80’s and 90’s she received three National Awards for teaching Science and Economics.  Since moving to Mountain View in 1999 Shay has thrown herself into the world of old-time fiddling.

Shay has reached an absolute master level in old-time fiddle in several different regional styles. As a testiment to her teaching abilities, many of her students have become State Champions and Grand Champions in old-time fiddling.

Breaking down difficult techniques seems effortless to her as she recognizes her students’ strengths and needs at a glance. This, coupled with her infectious love of the craft, enthusiastic teaching style and history of successful students cause many to claim she is the best teacher they have seen.

Albee telone

guitar, mandolin, upright bass

albee

Albee has been teaching at Mountain View Music for the last ten years, and has been playing at the Ozark Folk Center since 1995. An experienced player with eclectic taste, he’s your go-to guy for learning anything from old time back-up, to bluegrass leads, to jazz chords and inversions.

Rebecca Pool

fiddle, cello, banjo, guitar

In just five short years Rebecca has gone from a non-player to and Arkansas Grand Champion old-time fiddler. She is a master solo player and also plays regularly as a member of two award-winning old-time bands, giving her a good understanding of the unique dynamics of playing with other musicians.

Rebecca loves teaching and truly takes her students accomplishments to heart. She is comfortable in presenting skills and techniques in small incremental steps and moving at an obtainable pace for beginner to advanced-intermediate players. She is fun to work with, encouraging, and loves to laugh.

Kailee Spickes

fiddle, guitar, banjo, upright bass, mandolin

Kailee Spickes is the latest addition to Mountain View Music although she has been seen helping out in here for years. As a preteen fiddle student, she would “hang out” in the store before or after lessons and learned our point-of-sale system mostly by observing. When things would get really busy, she was quick to voluntarily step behind the register and help out. Kailee Spickes has been playing fiddle since she was nine years old, but her talents don’t stop there. She plays fiddle, guitar, banjo, upright bass, and mandolin. She has a love for music and teaching that is inexpressible. If Kailee is not teaching lessons, she is doing church activities, at a farm, playing in one of her multiple bands, clogging, or square dancing.

We are so pleased to have this talented and kind young lady as an official part of Mountain View Music.
